Vietnam Considers Partial Legalization of Sports Betting

The Vietnamese administration intends to select which soccer games the public can wager on, as per a fresh proposition that would partially legalize sports betting.

The Ministry of Finance is seeking governmental authorization for a bill that would permit betting, establishing a wagering cap of 1 million Vietnamese dong ($45) per individual per day.

The proposition will be presented to the government by the conclusion of this month, according to the Tuoi Tre newspaper.

The proposition would permit adults to gamble on a variety of international soccer matches, which would be determined by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. A bill drafted in 2010 also provided for betting on domestic matches.

Nguyen Hoang Hai, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors, voiced dissatisfaction with the proposed daily limit in an interview with Tuoi Tre.

“No one will wager within the limit of 1 million dong per day. Or they will have others wager for them,” he stated.

“Betting should either be prohibited or legalized. But it shouldn’t be partially allowed like this.”

Vietnam is contemplating permitting its residents to engage in gambling.
