Sports Leagues Receive Millions from Gambling Companies

A recent investigation by GlobalData has uncovered that, in a period of less than three years since the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018, gambling companies have transferred a significant sum of money, approximately $396.6 million, to the five leading sports leagues in the United States.

Liam Fox, a sports analyst at GlobalData, commented, “The remarkable expansion of the US sports betting sector has exceeded initial market projections. Conversely, state governments grappling with financial limitations stemming from the severe economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic are facing the challenge of bridging substantial budget deficits.”
