Two Chinese Snooker Players Suspended Amid Match-Fixing Inquiry

The global governing body for professional billiards and snooker, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), has temporarily barred two competitors as part of an ongoing inquiry into accusations of match manipulation.

The World Snooker Tour has suspended two Chinese players, Zhao Xintong and Zhang Jiankang, for alleged match-fixing. This suspension will continue until the investigation concludes or any additional charges are filed.

The two players are prohibited from participating in any World Snooker Tour events until the investigation concludes or any further charges are brought. Both players have the right to challenge the decision.

The WPBSA stated that the suspensions of the two players are part of a recent series of suspensions announced as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged match-fixing activities in violation of the WPBSA code of conduct.

Last month, Chinese star and former Masters champion Yan Bingtao was suspended, alongside fellow Chinese players Lu Ning, Li Xing, Zhao Jianbo, Bai Langning, and Chang Bingyu.

The decision is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of match-fixing for gambling purposes in violation of the WPBSA code of conduct.

Liang Wenbo, also from China, was suspended in October, while Gary Coulson from England was banned from participating in or attending sanctioned events.

The global governing body for professional billiards and snooker, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), has announced that they are concluding a significant inquiry and will soon determine whether to pursue legal action.
