SiGMA Americas Hosts ANJL and Brazilian Political Leaders for Gaming Regulation Discussions

The SiGMA Americas event extended a cordial reception to the head of the ANJL and representatives from the Brazilian Union political group.

Eman Pulis, who established the SiGMA Group, convened yesterday with Mr. Plinio Lemos Jorge, the leading figure of the National Gaming Association (ANJL), alongside individuals affiliated with the Brazilian Union party – National Chairman Antonio Eduardo Gonçalves de Rueda, Counsel Mariana Monteiro Fernandes de Carvalho, and party director Manuel Arruda. Vinícius Moraes De Carvalho, an Investment Associate at Ikigai Ventures, was also present at the gathering.

“This assembly provided a beneficial occasion to engage with some of the most impactful personalities in Brazilian gaming and its oversight, and to convey SiGMA’s perspective to them,” stated Eman Pulis. “A year and a half ago, we initiated a venture to the Americas with an aspiration, and with the goal of becoming the most significant event in the area – not merely by organizing an event, but by guiding the discourse and promoting awareness regarding the significance of regulating internet gaming.” He further remarked: “I perceive a hopeful outlook – not solely for the Americas, not solely for Brazil, but specifically for São Paulo.”

In a dialogue with SiGMA News, Mr. Jorge conveyed his appreciation: “Representing all members of ANJL, I wish to express gratitude to the SiGMA Group and its President, Eman Pulis, for the gracious hospitality during BIS SiGMA Americas.”

He elaborated: “We deliberated on the national landscape for the sports wagering and online gaming sector, a particularly crucial juncture as Brazil is formulating the regulatory structure for the industry.”

Our group was deeply struck by the magnitude of this gathering. The promising trajectory of your nation’s economy is evident, instilling us with optimism.”

Succeeding the respected Wesley Cardia, Mr. Lemos Jorge, a seasoned legal expert and former jurist, recently assumed the mantle of President. His extensive background spanning diverse fields brings a distinct and valuable expertise to the office. Mr. Jorge has underscored his dedication to open communication, cooperation, and clarity, reflecting his commitment to effectively advocating for and protecting the interests of ANJL constituents.

A principal at Lemos Jorge Advogados Associados, Mr. Jorge earned a Master’s degree in Tax Law from the esteemed Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. He is also pursuing a doctoral degree in Commercial Law and formerly presided as a Judge at the São Paulo State Court of Taxes and Fees.

Of note, the União Brasil party, a prominent force in Brazilian politics, arose in 2021 from the amalgamation of the Democrats (DEM) and the Social Liberal Party (PSL). This unification established the largest political entity in Brazil, formally acknowledged by the Superior Electoral Court in February 2022.

“Mr. Pulis has proposed our involvement in upcoming SiGMA conferences in other nations. We perceive this as a worthwhile chance to present Brazil’s perspective and capabilities to influential international stakeholders.”
