Crown Resorts Deemed Unfit for Sydney Casino License After Inquiry

An Australian casino license has been denied to Crown Resorts following a damning inquiry.

The investigation, spearheaded by retired Supreme Court Justice Patricia Bergin, issued a harsh report after years of scrutiny. It concluded that the corporation had participated in illicit financial activities, jeopardized its personnel with potential detention abroad (possibly connected to gambling obligations), and collaborated with junket organizers associated with criminal syndicates, including triads.

These revelations prompted Bergin to deem Crown “inappropriate” for operating its recently constructed $2.2 billion Sydney casino. The report also proposed capping individual ownership in any casino at 10%. On February 12th, regulatory authorities will convene to deliberate on the report’s findings and determine a plan of action.
