Betway’s Misleading “Free Bet” Promotion Faces ASA Backlash

A British customer criticized Betway for a deceptive complimentary wager campaign, and the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) concurred. The advertisement, appearing in June, heavily promoted “£30 in Complimentary Wagers” for soccer betting.

The issue? It omitted crucial details. To receive the £30, a matching deposit was required – it was a deposit match promotion. Betway acknowledged the advertisement’s lack of clarity, despite claiming the full terms and conditions were accessible.

They have since rectified the advertisement to explicitly state the matching deposit requirement and pledged greater transparency moving forward. The ASA emphasized that such “complimentary wager” phrasing is misleading without disclosing the deposit requirement. Betway is now aware – future advertisements must be completely transparent about the mechanics of their complimentary wager promotions.

A representative expressed satisfaction with Betway’s decision to alter the promotional material, verifying that the gaming firm had reached out to adjust their marketing efforts.
