French Gaming Disputes on the Rise ANJ Implements New Regulations to Protect Users

Frances gaming regulator, the ANJ, recently published figures on gambling conflicts between users and providers in 2023. Disagreements rose by 11% compared to 2022, with a significant portion (91%!) stemming from sports wagering.

According to the ANJ, these sports betting disagreements primarily revolved around issues like discrepancies over wager outcomes or voided bets. Users also encountered difficulties with account administration, including problems with cashing out or accounts being suspended or terminated.

It’s worth noting that a substantial number of grievances weren’t even reviewed by the mediator because the users hadn’t initially attempted to address the matter directly with the betting platform.

Positively, these conflicts are typically settled fairly rapidly, averaging within a month, and roughly one-third of the time, resolutions are reached that at least partially benefit the user.

Gaming authorities in France are implementing stricter regulations in 2023. They are taking action against unethical behavior by wagering platforms, ensuring users are notified of account freezes, and implementing measures to curb compulsive gaming.

Furthermore, they are prioritizing user safeguards, particularly for at-risk individuals, through educational initiatives and community outreach.

In a significant development, they have reduced the number of permitted sports wagers, eliminating 179 events. This revised catalog came into effect on the first of March.
